Raising awareness of the new Working with Children Check

The Working with Children Check was introduced in 2006 with a phase-in period of five years. Mendleson Communication was tasked with raising awareness of the new Working with Children Check among various sections of the community and to promote a number of public information sessions throughout Victoria.

Mendleson Communication performed a number of functions, including:

  • recommending techniques to improve message delivery after an audit of existing communications materials and then updating information materials
  • researching the best ways to communicate with people working in the formal and informal child care sector
  • staging a state-wide media campaign to communicate the roll-out of the program to different industry sectors
  • promoting public information sessions through editorial, event and calendar listings, online forums and direct promotion.

The client was delighted with the results and recommendations of the audit, including the edited materials. Extensive media coverage was gained across television, radio and print media, resulting in increased awareness of the Working with Children Check requirements and deadlines. This translated into high attendance at the community information sessions and people applying for the checks.
